About IQ (Intelligent Quotient)
Intelligent Quotient (IQ) is an evaluation method of measuring the intelligence level of a person. Schools often conduct IQ test to evaluate the intelligence of the pupils. Despite that, IQ test can never accurately measure the intelligence of a human. It only shows the relative intelligence of a human.
IQ test can take place in several forms. Different IQ test are designed to measure a different kind of intelligence in the persons that take part in it. The score of the IQ test is a number that range from 0 - 200+. To obtain the IQ, the examiner will use the formula 100 x Mental Age/Chronological Age (CA). IQ test are usually conducted on participants that have the same age. For example, if a kid who is 9 years old has an intelligence of 18 years old, his IQ is 100 x 18/9, he has an IQ of 200.
The normal people have an IQ of 100. If a person has an IQ higher than 100, he is considered cleverer than ordinary people. There are many children that have an IQ of 250. The standard IQ test measures the several personal qualities. One of the IQ test will test the user’s understanding in the English language. People who are not familiar with English will score a low IQ. Therefore, IQ test does not accurately test the intelligence level of a person. You cannot judge person as unintelligent if he score a low IQ since he may have other talent such as drawing. To judge a person’s IQ accurately, you will have to take into account experience, personal qualities and etc. Normally, IQ test is used in the schools to test the academic intelligence of the pupils.
There are many factors that influence a person’s IQ including hereditary, food, illness and etc. A person who suffers from Down Syndrome will have low IQ because its brain suffer from damage. Pregnant mothers who drink alcohol will cause deformation in the brain of the baby. Elder people that suffer from Alzheimer disease also have low IQ score. Malnutrition is one of the main contributions of low IQ. To have a healthy functioning brain, you must eat a healthy diet that contains all the nutrition in the Food Pyramid. If a child does not eat a balanced diet, his brain is not able to grow properly.
The IQ score can increase if a person kept on sitting for the test. No research has been to check whether a person who sit an IQ test repeatedly increase his score because of the repeated attempts of that he has become more intelligent. The frontal lobe plays an important part in the IQ score. People with larger frontal lobe score a higher IQ while people that have a small frontal lobe score a lower IQ.
Some people use IQ score to determine their success in the future career. IQ score shows bias toward people that has different color of skin. The genetic history of a person also has impact on the IQ score.
